down to 309! wow… can’t believe in a month and a half I’m already down over 16 pounds.

I’m so close to my first goal of 299, I can almost taste it. I can’t even remember the last time I was below 300.

Feeling really great about this progress, my next step in all of this is getting additional help for my thyriod, and getting my depression managed properly.

Hope you all are having a great day! <3

Anonymous asked: Is there any chance you could link some of your sources about the link between hypothyroidism and depression? The ones I've found so far aren't very credible - I've got hypothyroidism, and a few people have lately said they think I show some signs of anxiety issues and depression, so I'm interested in reading what you've found. =)

Sure thing! I have a ton bookmarked.

hypothyroidism and depression, a WebMD article.

another article from low thyriodhelp.com

an article from stopthethyriodmadness.com

and here is an excellent 5 part post by one of the writers on the f word.org, its a bit of a long read but I found this one to be the most helpful out of them all. It doesn’t just talk about depression though, it discusses hypo as a whole although it does highlight and talk about depression. I learned a lot from all of these posts.  part one, part two, part three, part four, part five.

Feel free to come off anon and talk to me about it too, I’m talking to quite a few people about it right now its its been really helpful to share experiences. :D

hypothyroidism & depression.

Tl;dr: wondering if anyone else has experienced depression in combination with having/being treated for hypothyroidism.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 14 or 15. I’ve been on generic levothyroxine for the past 3 years and now I’m the brand name, synthroid and have been for the past month. My dosage has increased over time, I started out on 50mgs when I was younger and now I’m up to 150mgs because it didn’t change my TSH levels much. But, heres the thing, I don’t even see an endocrinologist. Well, not yet. My bariatric doctor is the one who is treating my hypothyroidism.

But, now that I’m sitting here thinking about all my other symptoms that have yet to be cured because of this awful fucking disease I know I need to see a specialist and look into more/other treatment methods besides just the synthroid.

The link between hypothyroidism & depression is, apparently, really common and well known. I didn’t know this until a few days ago. I think thats the terrible thing about all of this, is that this little butterfly shaped gland has caused me such bullshit. I’ve always kind of known in the back of my mind that I had depression but I’ve never done anything about it, I don’t know why I didn’t and I honestly wish I did sooner. In health class during high school we learned all about it and there was a little questionnaire and without a doubt I scored and it said I have it.

There is just such a social stigma when it comes to mental illness though, and its terrible. Someone can get treated for a broken leg and its not big deal but if someone has low levels of serotonin or if it has to do with their T3 levels, they are looked at strange. Especially when you’re fat. The rates of depression are significantly higher among people who are diagnosed with hypothyroidism than they are in the population in general, I shouldn’t have to just live with this.I’ve come to the point in my life that I don’t really care what other people think anymore, I don’t need pity, I just want to be a normal human being like everyone else. I’m calling to make an appointment with a highly rated endocrinologist on Monday. I need to put an end to this.

I literally, can sleep for 13 hours and wake up and still be exhausted. My period is always messed up, its either super bad or I don’t even get it at all. I don’t find interest in in stuff I used to enjoy. I just stopped trying in everything. I failed out of college because some days I didn’t even want to get out of bed. Its made my relationship with my family worse. Depression is ruining my life and I’m putting a stop to it. Even if my depression has nothing to do with my thyroid, which after reading countless forums online, I’m 95% sure it does, depression also runs in my family. On both my mom and my dads side.

Anyway… I guess I just felt like writing this to see if anyone can relate to what I’m going through I know this doesn’t exactly go hand and hand with the theme of my blog but I figured that this post was more relevant on this blog than my personal blog. Too personal for my personal blog, ha. If that makes sense. I’m rambling now. Basically, if you have hypothyroidism and are dealing with depression, come talk to me please. I could use some insight in general… poundatatime.tumblr.com/ask

Anonymous asked: Do you use any diet pills/appetite supressants? Are they OTC? Names?

I wrote a whole blog about this here! And no, they are not OTC, although I have heard that you can buy them online I don’t know how legitimate they are.

How much water should I really be drinking a day?

I’m currently drinking 2 liters of water a day, I’m a little over 300lbs (if that makes any difference). Is this enough? thanks!
